OMORO. A four-year-old girl is nursing injuries at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital after her mother, Alice Apio allegedly beat up and broke both her femurs.
The minor, a resident of Awere Sub-county in Omoro District, said her mother beat her up on allegations that she was playing with a friend.
“My mother hit me with a metal on both knees and when I reported the matter to my grandmother, she was able to bring me here for treatment,” she told Daily Monitor at her hospital bed on Monday.
Ms Agalo said she found her granddaughter in pain and when she asked her what had happened, ‘Apio hurried to say the child fell from the tree yet she is the one who beat her up.’ “My daughter-in-law is very aggressive when it comes to childcare and at times she goes beyond the limits. As we talk now, she has fled the home for fear of being arrested,” Ms Agalo said. According to the medical report from Gulu Medical Consultants, the young girl has a fracture on the mid shaft of the femur with over-riding fracture fragments. Ms Rose Atim of the Uganda Human Rights Commission in charge of Acholi Sub-region said the matter should be reported to police ‘as a matter of urgency’ so that justice is served. By press time, the matter had not been reported to police since the family said they wanted the girl to recover before subjecting her to recording statements.
